Palate is a private notebook for what you eat. You tell it about a meal, and it remembers what you liked so it can help the next time you go back. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, who processes it, and the control you have. We keep it plain because your notebook is personal.
The microphone is used only while you are actively capturing — you tap it, you speak, it stops. Palate never listens in the background. Speech-to-text runs on your device where your phone supports it, so your audio never leaves the phone. Where on-device recognition is unavailable, a brief request is made to transcribe it and the audio is discarded immediately after. We do not store voice recordings. Only the resulting text of your question is sent to answer it.
We use a small set of trusted providers to run Palate. They process your data only to provide their service to us, under their own security and privacy commitments. We do not sell your data, and we do not share it for advertising.
| Provider | Purpose | Data involved |
|---|---|---|
| Clerk | Account sign-in & identity | Email address, account identifiers |
| Anthropic / Google (Gemini) | The AI that generates answers | Your question and the relevant notes needed to answer it |
| Voyage AI | Semantic search over your notes | Text of your visit notes (as embeddings) |
| Google Cloud Text-to-Speech | Reading answers aloud (when enabled) | The text of the answer to be spoken |
| Sentry | Crash & error monitoring | Anonymized diagnostics (no account identity) |
| Railway | Hosting & database | All stored account data (encrypted in transit) |
We keep your notebook as long as your account exists. You can permanently delete your account and everything in it at any time from Account → Delete account in the app. Deletion is immediate and irreversible — your restaurants, visits, notes, preferences, and account identity are erased, with no backup retained on our side.
All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Your data is isolated per account so one user can never see another’s. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
Palate is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data. You can delete everything yourself in the app, or contact us for any request. We do not sell personal information.
We may update this policy as Palate evolves. Material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date above, and where appropriate, noted in the app.
